Data Deletion Instructions

This page explains how to remove your data from Hookshift, and exactly what happens when you do. There are two separate things you may want, and they are not the same.

1. Disconnect Instagram, but keep your account

Use this when you want Hookshift to stop having any access to your Instagram account, while keeping your videos, hooks and history inside Hookshift.

In Hookshift: Settings, then Instagram, then Disconnect.

From Instagram, which works even if you cannot reach Hookshift: open Instagram, go to Settings, then Website Permissions, then Apps and Websites, and remove Hookshift.

What happens immediately:

• your access token is deleted from our database, not merely marked unused
• all scheduled publishing stops
• no further metrics are collected for your reels

What is kept: your uploaded videos, rendered variants, hook sets, and the record and metrics of reels already published. Reels already on your Instagram account stay there. Hookshift cannot remove them once published, and disconnecting does not attempt to.

2. Delete your Hookshift account and all data

Use this when you want everything gone.

In Hookshift: Settings, then Account, then Delete account. You will be asked to confirm, and offered an export first.

By email: write to support@hookshift.co from the address on your account, asking for deletion. We will confirm your identity and act within 30 days.

What happens immediately:

• your Instagram access token is deleted
• all scheduled publishing stops
• your account can no longer be logged into
• your subscription is cancelled

What happens after 30 days, permanently and irreversibly:

• uploaded videos and every rendered variant are erased from storage
• hook sets, captions and transcripts are erased
• publication records and reel metrics are erased
• your account and contact data are erased
• encrypted backups containing your data age out within a further 30 days

The 30 day delay exists so an accidental deletion can be reversed. Write to support@hookshift.co inside that window and we can restore the account. After it, nothing can be recovered, by you or by us.

3. What is kept, and why

Invoices and payment records are kept for 10 years, because Swiss commercial law requires it. These contain your name, address, the amount and the tax treatment. They do not contain your videos, your hooks, your Instagram data or your metrics.

Where a record of a copyright notice exists against your account, it is kept for as long as needed to operate the repeat-infringer policy in the DMCA Policy.

4. What Hookshift cannot delete

Reels that were published to your Instagram account are on Instagram, under your control, not ours. To remove them, delete them in the Instagram app. Deleting your Hookshift account does not delete anything from Instagram.

5. Getting a copy before you delete

Settings, then Account, then Export gives you your videos, rendered variants, hooks and a CSV of every publication and its metrics. Do this before deleting, because afterwards it is gone.
